Khojaly Genocide – The Tragedy of February 26, 1992


The Khojaly Genocide occurred on February 26, 1992, during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, when Armenian armed forces carried out a mass killing of civilians in the town of Khojaly, Azerbaijan. According to official reports, 613 civilians were killed, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly people. Hundreds were injured, 1,275 were taken hostage, and many families were completely destroyed. The massacre is widely regarded by Azerbaijan as a war crime and a crime against humanity under international law. The victims of Khojaly are commemorated annually on February 26.
